I have a black and a white birdcage veil that I bring to all my sessions that you can use if you would like a similar look for yourself.

As women, we are always striving for perfection. In doing so we tend to overemphasize the negative aspects of our bodies. Everyday we judge ourselves when standing too close to a mirror in poor lighting and only focus on our perceived imperfections.

Seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes can be a huge confidence boost because you get to see your whole self, without judging the first thing you notice in the mirror.

Through boudoir photography, you can realize the beauty that you might not have known you possess.

What made you want to have boudoir images done?

I had heard of Boudoir Photography before but never considered having them done. Then, I was browsing someone’s Project Wedding site who had some beautiful Boudoir photos taken and thought, “Wow, What a great gift!” I loved the idea of myself becoming the subject of a work of art and really celebrating different aspects of me and my relationship in a beautiful and classy, yet sexy, way. I think it is a great wedding gift, because so often weddings end up becoming more about your guests, and with all the stress of planning, they are a great reminder that it is really about you as a couple.

How did you prepare for your boudoir session?

I made sure I tried on all my outfits ahead of time and did a little posing in the mirror just to get a feel for which body positions and angles were the most flattering.  The night before my session I made sure to get plenty of rest so that I didn’t look or feel tired.  The day of, I didn’t plan anything before my boudoir session other than gathering my outfits and props.  Before I headed to my session I had a manicure and pedicure, so it felt like a day of pampering.  I made sure that I did eat that day, but nothing really heavy or greasy, and I drank a lot of water (which I normally do anyway).  Since my wedding is coming up, I had already been pretty strict with a diet and exercise plan.  I can’t say I made all the progress I wanted to in that regard, but I did make some progress, and so the photos were a chance to celebrate that.  I also had been tanning more frequently recently, so in the week before I took extra steps to make sure my skin was nice and moisturized.

Who are the boudoir images for?

They are for my fiance as a wedding present.

Have you given your fiance your boudoir photos, what did he think? If you haven’t given them how do you think he will react?

I haven’t given them to him yet.  I am planning to give them to him on our wedding day. We are planning on not seeing each other after our Rehearsal Dinner the night before until I walk down the aisle at our wedding.  That day I am going to have my bridesmaids deliver the album I had made to him.  I am almost tempted to give it to him in person just so I can see his reaction, but I will stick to my original plan, since I think it will add to the suspense of seeing me at the wedding.  I honestly think he is going to be so shocked, in an excited way, because I don’t think the thought of me having these photos taken for him would have ever crossed his mind.  I just keep picturing his mouth dropping and him saying, “Oh my God!”  or “Wow!”

What did you think of the experience of having the boudoir photos done?

It was actually very fun, liberating, and definitely a confidence booster.  Like most women, I can be pretty self-conscious about my body, but once I got into the session I was totally relaxed and into it.  I felt like a model!  Erica does a great job of making you feel comfortable and posing you in the most flattering ways.  She helped me to feel completely confident, and that definitely shows in my images.

How do you feel about your images?

I absolutely love them!  They are everything I hoped for and more.  These images are definitely my favorite that I’ve ever had taken!

Which images are your favourites?
It’s hard to say!  I ended up creating a 50 page album with hundreds of photos because I had such a hard time eliminating any.  Overall I would have to say that the ones using the pearl strands as props are my favorite.  These shots combine everything I wanted out of the session.  I am wearing my wedding night lingerie, shoes, and jewelry in them, so they commemorate our wedding.  They show great face shots, and the pearls are not only classy, but have a creative/artistic component.  And of course there is the sex appeal.  I do also like a lot of the shots where I am wearing the Redskins Jersey and the boy shorts with his last name on them, because they are fun, playful, and appeal to my fiance’s obsession with the Washington Redskins!

Mel is as beautiful inside as she is out.  She and our son, Matt have been together for three very stressful years.  After dating for approximately 6 months, Matt found out he was scheduled to go over to Afghanistan the following year.

Matt is a combat engineer with 1CER in Edmonton.  Mel was very upbeat and supportive during this very emotional time.  She was involved in managing his finances while he was away and assisting with the preparation of his will and funeral should the need arise.  Not something most young women in love must do, early in a relationship.  They decided to have a baby before he left.

Mel delivered our precious granddaughter on Feb 5 2008 and Matt left for a 7 month deployment in Afghanistan on Feb 18 of the same year.  Although she had no idea if she would ever see him again, she was supportive, upbeat, and always maintained a positive attitude that he would return home.  She was so considerate she contacted us every time she heard from Matt, to let us know of his safety.  She would reassure us constantly, even though it must have been a terrible strain on her, repeating over and over again that he was coming home.  Several times I just sat on the phone crying while Mel comforted me.  She also raised a newborn baby on her own, managing both the physical and emotional strain without complaint, while worrying daily about her fiancé and the father of her child.

Matt returned safe and sound in Oct 2008.

In June of this year, Mel was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  She did not let this get her down and remains positive and optimistic about treatment options.

Two weeks after hearing this devastating news, Matt was in a very serious car accident in which he was injured, requiring hospitalization and surgery, and their vehicle and brand new boat and trailer were completely destroyed.  Throughout daily hospital visits, full-time work, daily maintenance of a household and the huge responsibility of raising a toddler, Mel was able to laugh and joke and maintain a smile, all the while fighting a newly diagnosed chronic illness of her own, with symptoms that are only intensified with stress.  Only once did I see her break down in tears and that only assured me that she was human like the rest of us.

She tackles every adversity head on.  She never complains about anything.  She is a loving wife, wonderful mother and positive support for our family and we are so lucky to have her in our lives.  She is very considerate and kind and everyone that knows her loves her.  She is a very gentle soul who rarely takes time out for herself, always putting her family first.

She certainly deserves some pampering for herself.  She is a vibrant, fun-loving young woman with a great sense of humour who deserves to be in the spot light.  Her sense of style and sense of whimsy would make her a perfect candidate for the boudoir photo shots.

The last two years has given her numerous challenges and crises and this would be a wonderful opportunity to say thank you for all she has done for our family.

The first picture included is the morning Matt left for Afghanistan.  Despite tears and worry, she was able to provide one last smile before he left.

The second and third pictures are of Mel and Abbi, her beautiful face a reflection of her even more beautiful soul.
