Heading Down Under

We are off on our “honeymoon” to Sydney, Auckland & Fiji. Yes it has been over 2 years since we were married but we never got a chance to go and we had always planned on Australia. We finally have the opportunity to go this Spring and will be gone for about 6 weeks. We...

France

Traveling from Geneva, we entered France by TGV train through Lyon and then high-speed to Avignon in the south. This is the Palace of the Popes and is where many popes lived in the 14th century before the papacy returned to Rome.

After leaving Avignon we headed down to Nimes to meet my sister-in-law and her children and JP’s Dad. Here we are enjoying lunch in the city.

Switzerland

If you could only go to one place in Europe, I highly recommend Switzerland (specifically the area of Montreux on Lake Geneva). It is so beautiful there. Of course Switzerland is known for it’s cheese and chocolate and one of highlights of our time there was visiting the medieval town of Gruyere (cheese) and the town of Broc (chocolate). Montreux is also where the world-famous annual Jazz Festival is held and our visit there coincided with the event.

First we visited the capital city of Bern. The bear is a common theme here because the city was supposedly named after one. This bear pit has existed since the 16th century. This bear is snacking on fruit which tourists were allowed to drop into the pit.

Germany

We flew into Germany on Ryan Air. We thought we were flying into downtown Frankfurt but as we landed and looked out the window, we wondered where the city was. It turned out that we had flown into Frankfurt-Hahn, which was about 2.5 hours by bus to the actual city. That’s what you get for taking a discount airline and not doing any research – however the flight cost only about $20 from London so we can’t really complain and we found our way.

We headed down to Heidelberg. To me, Heidelberg was one of those quintessential old world German towns.

Just wanted to say that I love the new look of your blog. You seemed to have a LOT of fun during your trip in Europe. I would love to go to those german baths. It’s high I get relaxing time without the kids and with hubby. I wonder how far from Brussels, Belgium they are.
I’m interested to see what else you visited.

England

We flew into London and headed directly to Kent which is southeast of the city. This is where most of JP’s family lives (on his Mother’s side). We had done a lot of the tourist activities in England on our last visit so this time we just spent the time recovering from jet lag and...

We’re back!

My husband and I just returned from our trip to Europe. We visited 6 countries in a little over three weeks. My favourite was Switzerland. Montreaux was just beautiful and we were lucky to be there at the same time of the world-famous jazz festival. We spent an extended time in England and France visiting...
